10th Colloquium of the German Limes Commission LIMITES ET RIPAE II

On 14 and 15 September, we held a successful and exciting 2-day colloquium on the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Frontiers of the Roman Empire’ at the University of Cologne. We had guests from all over Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Slovakia and Romania. Many new and ongoing research projects on the Limes were presented during the colloquium. The lecture programme offered the experts in attendance the opportunity to discuss the research results presented as well as the questions and theories associated with the new data.

We, the German Limes Commission, would like to thank our cooperation partners (the Archaeology of the Roman Provinces, the Romano-Germanic Commission of the German Archaeological Institute and the LVR- Office for the Preservation of Archaeological Monuments in the Rhineland) for their great support. Many thanks to all those who took part in our 10th colloquium last week and whose hard work and research contributed to making it such an exciting and successful colloquium.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the commemoration of Prof Dr C. Sebastian Sommer and his tireless efforts on behalf of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Roman Limes - without him, it would not exist in this form today. Thank you for your commitment and perseverance, it will not be forgotten.
